21 September 2011

McCormicks Solicitors of Harrogate has added to its rankings for expertise in different areas of law in the latest edition of the UK’s principal guide to the legal profession, the UK Legal 500.

The practice has been recommended in a record-breaking 14 areas of law by the guide and is the only Harrogate firm in seven of those areas.

It wins two recommendations in the London section of the guide for its work in Sports Law and Mediation.

McCormicks is once again ranked equal first in Yorkshire and the Humber for its crime and fraud work, following a series of high-profile cases, under the leadership of Partner Geoff Rogers.

Peter McCormick is recognised as one of the Leading Individuals in the Yorkshire and Humber region for his expertise in Technology, Media and Telecoms, a definition which includes Media and Entertainment and Sports law. The firm is not only ranked equal first in Yorkshire and the Humber for its sports law expertise (with a first-time recommendation for Richard Crabb) but is also the only firm outside of the capital to be ranked in the London listing.  McCormicks is also ranked equal first in the region for Media and Entertainment law.

The firm’s work in Agriculture and Estates and Charities is also noted, with recommendations for Peter McCormick in both instances. The Charities team is described as “first class, astute, commercial and efficient”.

McCormicks’ teams are described as “excellent” in three different areas of law: Agriculture and Estates, Family and Intellectual Property. The latter is a first-time ranking for McCormicks.

Overall, McCormicks is recommended for all 14 of the following: Agriculture and Estates; Charities; Commercial Litigation; Corporate and Commercial; Commercial Property; Crime and Fraud; Employment; Family; Intellectual Property; Media and Entertainment; Mediators; Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate; Property Litigation and Sport. The firm also has 13 separate, individual recommendations for solicitors.

Senior partner Peter McCormick said: “The growth in our rankings this year reflects the hard work and determination of our team. This year has seen the firm add a new Partner, Richard Crabb, a new Commercial Property lawyer, Heather Roberts, and a new head of Private Client, Elaine Lightfoot, and I am sure that these strategic appointments will help us to make yet more progress in 2012.”
